This is a maintenance category. It is used for maintenance of the Wikipedia project and is not part of the encyclopedia. It contains pages that are not articles, or it groups articles by status rather than subject. Do not include this category in content categories. |
This template is used on approximately 30,000 pages, so changes to it will be widely noticed. Please test any changes in the template's /sandbox or /testcases subpages, or in your own user subpage. Please consider discussing changes on the talk page before implementing them. |

Usage
This template should be placed at the top of categories used in the maintenance of Wikipedia rather than as part of the encyclopedia – for example, at the top of Category:Wikipedia administration.
Parameters
The following descriptions assume the template is transcluded on a page in the Category namespace.
|shortcut= | Enables a shortcut to the category to be displayed by the template. Multiple shortcuts are supported: |shortcut1= up to |shortcut5= . |
|hidden=true/yes/on | Causes the template to hide the page (the category), add it to Category:Hidden categories and to include a {{Hidden category}} -style message. |
|tracking=true/yes/on | Causes the template to add the page (the category) to Category:Tracking categories and include a {{Tracking category}} -style message.1To add a short explanation of the tracking category after the message, use |purpose=Short explanation. |
|container=false/off | Causes the template to add the page (the category) to Category:Container categories and include a {{Container category}} -style message.2 |
|desc= or |1= or | (first unnamed parameter) | Text supplied will be placed below the template with a boldfaced header of "Description:". (The word "Description" can be replaced by something else, with |alt=Something else ). |
